The United Nations has denied the rights of seven member states to vote in the General Assembly: Lebanon, Venezuela, the Central African Republic, the Gambia, Lesotho, Tonga and Yemen.

This decision was made because of non-payment of contributions to the organization’s budget. It is temporary and the right to vote will be returned after the debts have been repaid.

As noted, according to Article 19 of the UN Charter, the state loses the right to vote in the UN General Assembly if it has a debt to the organization exceeding the amount of payment for the last two years.

Last year, 146 of the 193 UN countries paid their full contributions to the organization’s budget. 47 countries have not contributed to the UN budget.
